‘Mutati and his group are rebels’

Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD) Lusaka Province Chairlady Joyce Malichi has described rival faction leader Felix Mutati and his group as rebels who have lost the war of the MMD Leadership.

Malichi was testifying as a prosecution witness in the case in which Winnie Zaloumis has dragged Mutati and three others to the Lusaka High Court to find out who gave them authority to organize the MMD Convention of 2016

Malichi who is a founder member of the MMD informed the Court that the issue of a convention was never sanctioned in any NEC meeting.

“I have been a member of the MMD since it’s inception in 1990. I have risen through the ranks up to my current position of Lusaka Province Chairlady. The National Executive Committee to which I am a member of, is the only institution mandated by the MMD constitution to sanction for the holding of the Party Convention. The issue of holding the Convention in 2016 was never sanctioned in any of our NEC meeting because all the NEC members knew that the Convention would be held in 2017 because the NEC unanimously voted that way,” Malichi said.

And Robby Pondala, who is the MMD Provincial Chairman for Central province, took the stand after Malichi. He echoed the previous witness’ words and described Mutati and his group as foreigners who led a failed coup.

“Mr. Mutati and his group can be called foreigners because they are not members of the MMD. Mr. Mutati himself is an expelled member of the MMD. These foreigners in 2016 led an unsuccessful coup,” Pondala said.

The two faction leaders Dr. Nevers Mumba and Felix Mutati were present in court.
