Lt Gen Chimese

Government has finally admitted that Zambia Air Force (ZAF) commander Lieutenant General Eric Chimese has been dropped from his position.

Two weeks ago, Lieutenant General Chimese went on ‘leave’ and government continuously denied speculation that the ZAF boss has been relieved of his duties and was under being investigated for corrupt practices.

According to sources, Lieutenant General Chimese’s dismissal follows the conclusion of corruption investigations which may lead to a formal arrest soon.

President Edgar Lungu has since appointed Major General David Muma as acting Air commander, and General K Chintu will act as deputy commander.

  1. The real fight against corruption will be seen when big fish start being caged. This will send a strong signal that corruption can send you to a trash-bin.

  2. The biggest fish would be Lungu, MM. If he’s not being investigated or turning over a significant new leaf, it’s a nonsense exercise. The ZAF general probably didn’t share proceeds with Lungu and that’s why he’s out, not because of any sudden moral priorities of this pervasively corrupt regime.
