LAZ bans Martha Mushipe from practising law

UPND firebrand Martha Mushipe has been suspended from practising law by the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) “until further notice.”

This means that Mushipe is not allowed to appear before any court of law or file any court process. The Practitioners’ Committee of LAZ has also closed her law firm Mushipe and Associates.

“Take Notice that the above Practitioner has [been] suspended from practising law with immediate effect. By this notice, the said Practitioner is not to appear in any Court of Law/Tribunal and should not file Court process of whatever nature until further notice from the undersigned,” reads the LAZ notice signed by Legal Practitioners Committee’s honorary secretary Samuel Twumasi.

“Since the firm under the name and style ” Mushipe and Associates” is a one man firm, it is ordered that the firm be closed with immediate effect.”

The notice did not state the reasons for suspending Mushipe’s practising license but The Zambian Eye understands that it is in relation to her conduct before the Constitutional Court during Hakainde Hichilema’s ill-fated presidential election petition in 2016.

One Response to LAZ bans Martha Mushipe from practising law

  1. LAZ is just on paper, once Mushipe attains political power LAZ will definitely lift the suspension. LAZ should not be politically inclined but it would do well to remain neutral
