Zambia Air Force has at the last minute revoked the permission granted to opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) to fly its helicopter on the polling day.

In a statement this afternoon, UPND explained that it had obtained prior authorisation from Electoral Commission of Zambia to use the helicopter as a means of transport.

“The use of the helicopters was arranged as a means of transport by which to send our observers and other logistics to polling stations, particularly where weather and flood conditions mean some areas of the country are inaccessible,” read the statement is parts.

The UPND says it is now concerned that the party’s observers will be unable to fulfil their oversight role in the way in which they had planned.

“The last minute removal of permissions already granted has made coordinating alternative arrangements very difficult,” the UPND states.

  3. Brigadier General David Muma, presidential chopper pilot and ZAF director of operations, you have just involved yourself too much in politics and you will cry at the end of these elections when HH wins. You are still young and your carrier will be shortened. Leave politicians do their politics. Be professional. Just advice from a good friend.

  5. It is a matter of national security not partisian decision.those arrangements could have been prior to the election day. Fly to where, for what, who and with what? The party if it had national charater should have members in all districts to conduct observations

  6. ZAF and ECZ are heavily politicized, so this comes as no surprise…they’re all scared of their own shadows and that of course of PF. What is ECZ scared of when campaigns are already over? Meanwhile, they can’t even cope with their own mandated work. Clearly they are doing so to ensure their planned rigging plans remain on course. And you stand on the anti hill and claim that you are ready to handle free and fair elections! Rubbish!

  7. Since Ecz And Zaf Has Stoped Upnd To Fly Helicopters, I Think Upnd Should Go To Ecz And Table The Use Of Cows To Take Monitors And Other Logistics To The Polling Stations. Its Simple Bane, Dont Cry. You Have Monitors In All Polling Stations, Why Make Noise At Polling Stations With Helicoters When They Are Counting? Maybe You Wanted People To Come And Watch Your Helicoptors At Polling Stations And Later Cause Confusion. Idiots
