Opposition UPND says they will have the public rally that was stopped by the Police this coming Sunday, 16th September 2012.
UPND media Liason officer Mambo Hamaundu says they will hold the rally at the same venue in Kanyama and that they have since notified the Police as per requirement.

“We going ahead this Sunday,” Hamaundu said. “We have just notified the police as required by the law.”

Armed Police officers stopped the UPND from holding a rally in Kanyama last Sunday despite a court order citing lack of manpower. They said there were busy with the Zambia / Uganda match that was held on Saturday.
And UPND has announced that they will commence contempt  of court proceedings following the move by police to block the party from hosting a public rally in Lusaka’s Kanyama compound on Sunday.
Martha Mushipe, one of the lawyers representing the party says they are commencing contempt proceedings on Wednesday this week.
Attorney General Mumba Malila who is the Government’s lawyer told ZNBC on Sunday that the court order was defective because it was served on his son around 21:00 hours at home on Friday last week.
Mr Malila says this is contrary to the State proceeding Act and High court Rules.
He says he needed to be served with the order during working hours for him to have enough time to advise the involved parties.
Meanwhile many civic groups including Law Association of Zambia have condemned the police’s move to stop the rally despite the court order.
