Robert Mugabe dies at 95

Former Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe has passed away aged 95.

The Zimbabwean revolutionary and first post-independence leader died at a Singaporean hospital where he was receiving treatment.

Current president of Zimbabwe Emerson Mnangagwa confirmed the death of predecessor, tweeting: “It is with the utmost sadness that I announce the passing on of Zimbabwe’s founding father and former President, Cde Robert Mugabe.”

He described Mugabe as an icon of liberation whose contribution to the history of Zimbabwe and the African continent will never be forgotten.

“Cde Mugabe was an icon of liberation, a pan-Africanist who dedicated his life to the emancipation and empowerment of his people. His contribution to the history of our nation and continent will never be forgotten. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”

Mugabe served as Prime Minister of Zimbabwe from 1980 to 1987 and then as President from 1987 to 2017.

  1. The sad part is that he died in a foreign country.As a revolutionary,he would have bettered the ‘medical economy’ for ALL Zimbabweans.The good God gave him 27years to better the lives of his fellow country men but he has left them in worse conditions than he found them.MHSRIP
