Katumbi leaves for Congo Brazzaville

Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)presidential hopeful, Moise Katumbi has left for Europe after his attempts to enter Congo Brazzaville failed.

Katumbi was hoping to get into DR Congo, after a two-year self-imposed exile, but the authorities twice blocked his entry, leaving him stranded in Zambia, a move which meant he could miss the Wednesday deadline to register his candidacy ahead of the December 2018 polls.

However, reports reaching Phoenix News last night indicate that Mr. Katumbi left Zambia for Congo Brazzaville on a private jet at 13:30 yesterday at the Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe airport in Ndola.

Katumbi was sentenced in absentia to 36 months in prison for illegally selling property that did not belong to him, charges he says were bogus.

And speaking earlier in an interview in Kitwe, Katumbi advised the Zambian opposition to work together with the PF government for the sake of development.
