Police arrest Leadership Movement leader

Police in Lusaka have jointly charged and arrested the President of the Leadership Movement Richard Silumbe for the offense of being in possession of offensive weapons.

According to the police, Dr. Silumbe 38, reported himself to the police today following a notice to employer invitation which was issued to him on October 16.

Acting police Spokesperson Rea Hamoonga says Dr. Silumbe is in police custody together with his 12 members facing similar charges.

Among them is also party secretary general Brown Sinyangwe who was also arrested last week.

Earlier, the party National Chairman David Kalumba held a press briefing and described as a staged managed episode the arrest of 12 members of the party on charges of being in possession of offensive weapons.

Kalumba says his party has nothing to do with the said offensive weapons.

During the arrest last week, police seized 55 Machetes,6 tasers, 17 walkie talkie radios, 29 boxes of registration forms.
