President Edgar Lungu

Elias Chipimo’s party NAREP says nothing will save Zambia apart from going for early elections.

President Edgar Lungu and his PF party win in 2016 was disputed and the main opposition has refused to recognise his presidency.

The opposition NAREP has called on President Lungu to dissolve Parliament and call for an early election to legitimize his reign and have a new start amid the economic crisis.

Below is the statement by NAREP to Zambian Eye released Wednesday morning:

As NAREP youths in Lusaka Province,we would like to call upon the President of the Republic of Zambia Mr.Edgar Lungu that pursuant to article 81 (4) of the constitution of Zambia he must dissolve parliament immediately in order for the country to have a new start amidst the economic crisis that has hit the country.

We believe given the empirical evidence currently visible to all that the condition of the country maybe beyond repair should the current crop of leaders continue presiding over the affairs of the nation. It is no secret that the PF has lost the mandate of the people and it will be in the interest of the nation to have a fresh start.
Zambians are tired of seeing elected officials driving sleek and expensive vehicles while the masses remain in abject poverty.Youths are tired of ceremonial speeches given only on youths day celebrations without any accompanying actions. Our health system remains broken, our economy is dead, the country has been turned into an extension of China, local firms are closing and others badly disabled.

Given the current backlog of challenging confronting the country and the many undelivered promises of the PF,it would be in national interest for the country to hold early elections which will be the first step in restoring our nation.Corruption is a major headline matter of our time in this country and yet no meaningful steps are taken to put a dumper to such a disorder.
We call upon the President to dissolve parliament and call for early elections as this is the only way,we can renew our objective and resolve as a country.

  2. Early elections comment makes no meaning at all as the country should just go a normal route of democratic processes of 5 years. Why panic? If it is your chance to rule God will give that opportunity to you as and when it is necessary. The second point is that after elections nothing much changes as technocrats remain intact. Remember overhauling is very difficult and before you overhaul they overhaul you first no matter how strong you are. Remember the late former president Michael was equally no tolerant but there are still people who took advantage of him. President Edgar Lungu is fine, just give him support as he can do nothing on his own.Guys lets work hard for our mother Zambia.
