Some participants of the National Dialogue Forum – (NDF) have expressed dissatisfaction with government’s failure to provide them with allowances.

This comes barely two days after the official opening of business in the government-instituted NDF. Some civil society representatives and opposition party leaders have openly expresses disappointment on the lack of allowances.

Some participants have even threatened to pull out of the forum if the Justice Ministry will not respond to the issue of allowances.

Opposition Zambia Direct Democracy Movement (ZDDM) President Edwin Sakala says it is becoming difficult for the political parties to participate effectively at the Forum because of financial constraints. He says delegates cannot be attending the 10-day forum using their own resources.

According to Section 15 of the National Dialogue Act, it states that the institutions which the member or members of the committee of the forum represent are responsible for the Payment of all allowances, other emoluments and any other costs of their representatives in the Forum where the institution determines that allowances other emoluments or any other costs are payable in relation to their representatives.

This means the Forum will not pay delegates any allowances.
