Chipolopolo, UgandaA second half brace by substitute Evans Kangwa ensured that Zambia came back from a goal down to defeat Uganda 2 – 1 in an International friendly match at Mwanawasa Stadium on Wednesday.

After a goalless first half in which both sides struggled to create chances in front of goal substitute Hamis Kiiza opened the scoring six minutes after the restart.

But Evans Kangwa equalised for Zambia in the 65th minute and smashed home the second eleven minutes later.

Uganda coach Micho Sredojevic said the match against Zambia was good preparation for his team ahead of the preliminary qualification round of the 2015 African Cup of Nations which start in May.

“It is a privilege for us to play Zambia as we look at our players before the qualifiers for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations which begin on 17th May. We had problems assembling the best squad for this match but I want to show appreciation for the players who made the trip,” Sredojevic said

“This match was billed as a friendly but two good opponents contested as if they were playing a final. I am satisfied with the performance of my team against good opposition. I believe that we our tactical approach was good; we played an open game and scored a goal in good time.

“But we allowed Zambia to come back when we pulled back and invited them to come at us. Two moments of defensive lapses resulted in them scoring two goals. Zambia’s hard work paid off because they scored two beautiful goals and we made two blunders.

“Lastly I wish to add that I would like to meet Zambia in the group stage of the Afcon qualifiers because we shall be guaranteed of two good matches here and in Kampala,” he said.

And Zambia coach Patrice Beaumelle told fazfootball.com that he was happy to record his first win at home with the chipolopolo.

“I have a lot of respect for Uganda. They gave us a good challenge in the qualifiers for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations and although they have not qualified for the Afcon in a long time, for me they are one of the best teams in Africa.

“I am very happy to have played this game with a full chipolopolo squad something that has not happened since we played Brazil. We brought in a good mixture of youth and experience and I am very happy for Evans Kangwa because he brought urgency to the game, he was like breath of fresh air and he scored two beautiful goals.

“I am happy to have won the game today because it is my first win at home. But this is not about me. I am not here for myself but for the chipolopolo,” said Beaumelle. Source: FAZ
