He has been appearing in court before Magistrate Simusamba since the matter began in 2018 and came to an abrupt closure on 21st September 2020 when magistrate Simusamba denied Kambwili’s lawyers for more time to continue their defense.

Delivering his ruling that took two hours this morning, Magistrate Simusamba convicted Kambwili in two counts – forgery and altering of false document while he acquitted him in the third count of giving false information to a public officer.

It was an sorrow moment at the Court as his Daughter broke down while party supporters looked saddened.

His Deputy Akafumba said the conviction was anticipated looking at the conduct of the presiding Magistrate. Akumba accused Magistrate Simusamba of being against Kambwili. He said the whole issue was political from inception.

Meanwhile Kambwili has instructed his lawyers to appeal against his conviction. Lead lawyer Musa Mwenya has confirmed that the legal team will be appealing against the conviction.

“Our role is to represent our Client to the best of our effort and we shall be appealing against this conviction. He (Kambwili) is however in a high spirit,” said Mwenya.

Kambwili was then driven to prison amidst tight security.
