Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Lillian Shawa Siyuni has backtracked on the earlier decision to withdraw assault charges against Chifubu PF Member of Parliament Frank Ng’ambi following a public outcry.

Ng’ambi, who brutally beat up his wife Mubanga Chikumo Ngambi until she ended up in hospital, was arrested and take to court but state prosecutors asked to discontinue the case through a nolle prosequi.

However, many individuals and organizations condemned the decision, forcing the DPP to backtrack 48 hours after the decision.

In a statement, Siyuni announced that she has instructed the police to arrest Ng’ambi and prosecute him.

Commenting on the development, Nongovernmental Gender Organisations Coordinating Council (NGOCC) Executive Director Engwase Mwale said her organisation will pursue the issue until successful prosecution and sentence is effected.
