Daniel Munkombwe

Veteran politician and freedom fighter Daniel Chibbwalu Munkombwe has died.

Munkombwe, 86, died at the Livingstone General Hospital following a illness.

He had long been receiving treatment both at home and abroad for what is believed to be cancer.

The flamboyant Munkombwe, whose political career spanned 63 years, had been part of every government since independence except under President Edgar Lungu.

He served in the Zambian National Assembly for a total of 29 years as MP for Choma Central and also through nomination, making him the country’s longest serving parliamentarian.

    Iam sad he is no more. I
    Wished he lived much longer to see more.
