COVID-19 drowns Mazabuka District

Panic has gripped Mazabuka as major government institutions close shop after detecting cases of Covid-19 pandemic in the district of Southern Province.

Positive cases of Covid-19 have been recorded at Mazabuka Municipal Council and the General Hospital.

A snap survey by a local media house on Tuesday afternoon found officers from the public health department at the council disinfecting the premises with entry to the civic center restricted.

However, official the council could not comment by broadcast time to confirm the development.

Meanwhile, District Health Director, Dr. Phallon Mwaba also told Byta FM News that the pandemic has spread to the entire Mazabuka.

He says that the district has 25 active cases and called on the public to adhere to the Covid-19 prevention guidelines.

Meanwhile Mazabuka Mayor Vincent Lilanda has called on residents to test for Covid-19.

He says the council will soon come up with new measures to prevent the spread of the pandemic.

Meanwhile, Zambia registered the highest daily Covid-19 cases and related deaths with Southern Province among the worst hit regions in Tuesday’s update.

Official statistics from the Ministry of Health Facebook Page reveal 652 new cases of Covid-19 and fourteen deaths from over ten thousand tests results.

The figures show Livingstone registering 83, Namwala 23, Choma 19, Mazabuka 16 and 2 from Zimba in Southern region of the country.

This has pushed the total number of Covid-19 cases recorded in Zambia to 22, 645 while recoveries are standing at 19, 526 with 2, 707 active cases. -Byta FM
