Elias Chipimo has resigned from his position as President of the National Restoration Party (NAREP).

Chipimo announced the decision at a press conference in Lusaka today, saying he is leaving the political arena and will serve the country in other ways.

“I have not been offered a job by government and I am not joining any opposition political party. I am going into private practice,” Chipimo said.

NAREP vice-president Charles Maboshe will act as party president in the interim until a new president is elected.

Maboshe announced that NAREP will remain a member of the opposition alliance.
