Two people have died in a road traffic accident involving a Toyota Corolla and a water bowser. This happened after the Corolla lost control and hit into the stationary truck in Mazala area along the Great East Road on Thursday.

The Corolla, Registration number ABH 3962, which was being driven by 35-year-old Osman Ngoma of Mazala Village, Chief Madzimoyo in Chipata, had two passengers on board.

Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo has confirmed the accident, saying it occurred when Ngoma hit into a water bowser, Registration number AAX 5645, which was parked by Henry Mwale, 36, of Mutilansembe Compound in Chipata District.

“The accident happened when the driver of the Toyota Corolla failed to control the Motor Vehicle due to excessive speed and hit into a stationary motor vehicle,” Katongo said.

Katongo identified the passengers who were on the Corolla as Lukas Banda and Stella Mwale aged 17 years all of the same village.

She said the driver of the corolla and one passenger Lukas Banda died on the spot while another passenger sustained a fractured left leg and is admitted to Chipata Central Hospital and the driver of the water bowser escaped unhurt.

She said both deceased bodies are lying in Chipata Central Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem while the passenger who sustained injuries is admitted to the same Hospital.
