The dismissal of Patriotic Front director for media Brian Hapunda has sent a sense of euphoria in public media newsrooms where he weighed in heavily on vulnerable journalists.
Hapunda had been notorious for throwing his weight in public media newsrooms where he claimed to have been carrying the party banner.
Journalists could not dodge him for fear of dismissal as he never hid the fact that he could engineer punitive action against any journalist not in tow with his wishes.
Hapunda was a traditional feature on ZNBC news from their unmistakable silk sofas in the newsroom where he rushed each time he was in an attention seeking mode.
News of his dismissal was greeted euphorically at the mass media complex, Daily Mail and Times of Zambia, where naturally he is expected to be shut out.
Hapunda, a former UPND member has within two years hit a hat trick of dismissals for mostly fraud related activities first under late President
Michael Sata, then acting President Guy Scott and now President Edgar Lungu.
For a man who got expelled from the University of Zambia for cheating in an examination he may have been lucky to come this far.
