13 civil servants dismissed over public funds

Government has dismissed 13 civil servants for various offences involving public funds.

According to a statement by Ministry of Finance Public Relations Officer Chileshe Kandeta, the dismissed officials are from the Ministry of General Education, Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Lusaka Province Provincial Administration.

Those from the Ministry of Education are Chizaso Thole a senior accountant, Eliya Mwale an accountant, Lazarus Chanda assistant accountant and Ivy Sibajane accounts assistant.

Those from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are Noel Mulopa, assistant director operations, and Lawrence Phiri, an accountant.

Those from the Ministry of Commerce include Rogers Mwanza Senior Accountant, Lukanda Matambo accounts assistant and Moses Thole accounts assistant.

Those under the Lusaka privincial administration include Grace Zimba a Principal Accountant, Psela Banda an Accountant, Nzewa Chombu Accounts Assistant and Gideon Zulu Accounts Assistant.

And Kandeta has clarified that a media report stating that over four hundred and 53 thousand Kwacha went missing at the Ministry of Finance because of the crash of the Integrated Financial Management Information System [IFMIS], is a mix-up.

He said the funds in question relate to the Zambia Bureau of Standards and the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission -CCPC- under the Ministry of Commerce Trade and Industry, which were fraudulently paid to an individual for the year ending 31st December 2017.
