The annual rate of inflation for the month of April 2019 has increased to 7.7 percent from the 7.5 recorded in March 2019 as measured by the consumer price index.

The increase in the annual rate of inflation was mainly attributed to price increase in bread and cereals, meat products, mealie meal and purchase of vehicles.

Addressing the media during the presentation of the monthly bulletin, CSO Acting Director of Census and Statistics, Goodson Sinyenga says the increase indicates that on average, prices of goods and services increased by 7.7 percent between April 2018 and April 2019.

And the month on month food inflation rate for April 2019 has reduced to 1.0 percentage point from 1.9 percent and has been attributed mainly to price changes of fish products such as fresh Kapenta, dried bream and frozen fish.
