Zambeef Plc is facing a challenge in winning back the confidence of the Zambian people after revelations that it was using a chemical to preserve its imported meat products.

A random check at most Zambeef outlets in Lusaka revealed that only a sizable number of people are getting into the company’s outlets in the capital to buy meat products.

Those that are buying were however seen getting more of other products like Chicken and Fish.

At South Gate in Lusaka, only  about 10 people entered to buy the products in over 20 minutes of study while others where just checking and going back without getting anything.

The company has also withdrawn some beef products with only a small quantities of the product in the fridges.

Zambeef had been facing public criticism after revelations that the company was using aromatic aldehyde a chemical used to embalm dead bodies to preserve its imported products such as kidneys and offals.

Government has also ordered the company to remove all stocks of the imported beef from the market.

Company Spokesperson Joston Kopulande confirmed in a statement on Monday, June 25, 2013 that Zambeef had removed all imported products from its shops.
