Opposition UPND president Hakainde Hichilema has charged that his party will not allow the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to print the ballot papers in Dubai.

Speaking at a media briefing where Members of Parliament from the ruling Patriotic Front (PF), opposition MMD, and ADD officially joined UPND, Hichilema said there was no reason why the ballot papers should be printed in Dubai especially that the cost was higher than South Africa.

Hichilema who said was giving instructions to President Lungu, also warned ECZ against going the stakeholders will who have objected the printing of ballots in Dubai. He warned that ECZ will be held responsible if something wrong goes wrong in the country.

On the implementing of Public Order Act which in many cases have seen the opposition denied permit to hold rallies, Hichilema warned that starting Monday he will not tolerate anyone who stop the UPND from exercising their right to campaign.

The opposition leader said enough is enough and that his party shall deal with whoever will stand on its way. He said the official campaign period starts on Monday and has urged the Police not to accept to be used by the PF to obstruct the opposition campaigns.

Hichilema also announced that he had instructed the UPND lawyers up their games push for a number of issues in the constitution court that includes the dissolution of cabinet, referendum among others. He said it is morally wrong for President Lungu to continue holding on to Cabinet Ministers.

He urged President Lungu to ensure Ministers vacate their offices and park government vehicles to serve public resources which he said could be used to pay UNZA Students who have not received their meal allowances since they opened a month ago.

The UPND leader also gave President Lungu one month to reinstate the other University Students government had expelled after riots. He said the Students were merely asking for their entitlement – allowances.

During the briefing Hichilema instructed former PF Chongwe Member of Parliament Sylvia Masebo to immediately report the case where foreigners are alleged to have been registered to vote in the August 11 elections.

This was after Masebo disclosed that she had information on how the PF is trying to manipulate the vote and had that there is need to ensure that the foreigners are stopped from voting.

  2. Even the people will not vote them, they will be saying, why vote for them, when they are still enjoying on the expense of the suffering Zambians. The fuel, cars, allowances, would have saved to buy mattress , beds sheets in UTH , even running water in the wards, but because he wants to win, he diverts money to ministers. Vote for UPND, for the poor.

  3. It is time to be tough. ECZ officials should never be given easy sleep if they disobey the wishes of Zambians. Lungu too is a f00lish president who should have not been elected president. Ministers clinging to their offices should be prosecuted and made to refund money spent on them and the abuse of GRZ resources.

  6. Ministers are chosen from mps. If one ceases from being an MP how does she or he continue being an MP?
The constitution does not state clearly that after dissolution of parliament ministers will continue to be ministers.
This is too risk. If pf loses some ministers who will accept to continue now will be in problems.
The fact is that the constitution does not state clearly and the basis for being a minister one has to be an MP. Now who is still an MP among the ministers to qualify for ministerial position?
It is now up to ministers to choose what is morally right.
Former ministers must read the constitution and compare areas cited by their opponents to see whether they are right or wrong.
The other option others have is to quit just before elections.
Somebody will remain alone. You will see.

  7. Interesting bitter politics. So why didn’t hh advise GBM to vacate his kasama seat when he resigned from PF? Ba hh you don’t know how to play major league politics. You should have at least been a ward chairman and get some experience in division three south politics. Your organize of politics is what causes you to lose.
