The Patriotic Front -PF- Central Committee has resolved that President, Edgar Lungu, will be the ruling party’s presidential candidate in the 2016 general elections.

The decision was arrived at today during the ruling party’s Central Committee meeting at State House.

Party Secretary General, Davies Chama, has explained that the decision is a reaffirmation of the decision made by the PF convention, which elected President Lungu as party leader.

Mr Chama has added that President Lungu’s mandate, therefore, goes up to 2019.

Meanwhile, the PF has adopted businessman, Kelvin Sampa as its candidate for the Kasama Central parliamentary seat.

The seat was declared vacant after the incumbent Member of Parliament, Geoffrey Mwamba joined the opposition UPND and was subsequently appointed its Vice President.

Mr Chama has explained that even though the seat has been contested in the courts of law, the party wants to have a candidate ready for the by-election.

And the PF has adopted, Martin Mbaya, as its candidate in the Solwezi West parliamentary by-election, while George Mwamba Penda will be the party’s candidate in Lubansenshi.

The Sowlezi West and Lubansenshi parliamentary by-elections are set for Thursday, September 24, 2015.

Mr Chama says he is optimistic that the PF will win all the Three parliamentary by-elections.

The decisions were also made at today’s PF Central Committee meeting.

And the MMD has adopted candidates for the forth-coming Parliamentary by-elections.

The MMD will feature Gabriel Mulenga in the Lubansenshi Parliamentary bye-elections and Fordson Mulishinyi in the Solwezi West Parliamentary by-elections on its tickets

MMD Spokesperson Raphael Nakacinda has confirmed this in a telephone interview with ZNBC News in Lusaka.

Mr Nakacinda says the MMD has not yet adopted any candidate for the Kasama Central Parliamentary bye-election as the Court Process over the declaration of the seat vacant is pending.

He however says the party is ready to participate in the Kasama Central Parliamentary by-elections should the court endsorse the declaration of the seat vacant.

Meanwhile United Party for National Development-UPND is on Tuesday ear-marked to announce its candidates for the impending bye-elections.

UPND Deputy Spokesperson Cornelius Mweeta has confirmed this in a telephone interview with ZNBC News.

The Lubansenshi Parliamentary by-elections have been necessitated following the Supreme Court’s decision in JUNE to nullify the elections Patrick Mucheleka as area member of parliament

Meanwhile Solwezi West Parliamentary elections have been triggered by the death of Humprey Mwanza who was area member of parliament – ZNBC

  2. PF is no longer the darling of people of Zambia. Aprt from lies and shooting of innocent people it has nothing to offer. By elections can go either way since they have the room to manipulate the electro commission of Zambia and the judicialy, infact the whole government sysytem. In 2016 it will be like how Manchester United failed to tick under that coach I have failed to recall after Sir Alex left. This guy will soon be forgotten and only Sata the great lier will have his name mentioned here and there for tossing out corrupt Rupiah Banda after we put HH who will connect where Levy left us when he crossed to the other side.
