Francisco Mwepu, the younger brother of former Chipolopolo captain Enock Mwepu, is determined to bring a positive contribution to the national team set-up.

Mwepu is on loan at Atlético Sanluqueño from Spanish La Liga side Cadiz, where he has scored 6 goals in 7 games this season and is currently the leading top scorer in the Primera Federacion.

He is currently with the national team in Dubai as they prepare for a friendly match against Uganda on Tuesday. He spoke to the media and said that he is privileged to represent the country and is happy to be with the team and contribute to the nation.

“For me, it’s a privilege, and it is always a pressure to be here,” Mwepu said. “I am happy to be here; I just want to contribute to the team and make sure the team moves forward.”

Mwepu was a second-half substitute in Zambia’s 1-0 loss to Egypt on Thursday, but he showed his quality during the few minutes that he was on the pitch. Mwepu feels that games like these are high-quality games with a high level of competition.

“It’s a good feeling; you know those are high games, and competition is always high,” Mwepu said.

Zambia plays Uganda on Tuesday, who on paper looks to be an easier opponent compared to Egypt, but Mwepu says that there are no easy games when it comes to international football.

“There are no small games in the national team; also, against Uganda, it’s a tough game, it’s a good friendly game, we just need to give our best,” Mwepu said.

The young Zambia attacker, who is enjoying life in Spain, is hopeful of replicating his club form into the national team.

“I am doing well in my club; I just hope I can help the national team to score goals as a striker,” Mwepu said. “I hope I can replicate that with the national team.”

Mwepu will be hoping that coach Avram Grant will give him more playing minutes in the game against Uganda on Tuesday so that he can try and replicate his club form.
