The Choma Municipal Council has rubbished rumours of Choma Central constituency UPND member of parliament Cornelius Mweetwa  grabbing land that was meant for the construction of a modern market and mini hospital.
Council Town Clerk Timoty Mumbalakata says Mweetwa’s piece of land was allocated to him just like any other citizen and it was not meant for the construction of any govt infrastructure. He added that Mweetwa’s plot is 5640 located in Huumba area and not New Kalundu as alleged by Joe Muchindu.
Mumbalakata says there was no land  allocated for a market in New Kalundu area, adding that the council has instead reserved some land to construct a clinic which has not been given to any individual. He Stressed that the local authority has land reserved to construct a modern Market in Huumba area and it is still intact waiting for  funding.
“We provided land for a market and that plot is still intact, it has not been allocated to any individual,” Mumbalakata stated. “The plot in question is not there in New Kalundu but it is in Huumba area were the Honourable MP has his personal land which was meant for plot allocation by the council unlike the story of it reserved for a market. He acquired it just like any other citizen.”
Mumbalakata further says there was land which was earmarked for the construction of a modern Market before Choma became the provincial capital, but it was re-allocated to the construction of government institutions like prisons, Agriculture, Immigration, Police and Auditor General’s offices after the declaration.
He said the land that was left after it was redesigned for govt infrastructure is now the earmarked for the construction of a modern market in Huumba area.
“The plot in question is not there in new Kalundu. However, after checking our records it is showing that the plot number 5640 is in Huumba area and it was given to Hon. Mweetwa just like any other citizen. Yes there was some land allocated for the construction of a big modern market way back before Choma became the provincial capital but it was later redesigned to provide for the construction of government institutions,” Explains Mumbalakata.
Meanwhile Stubborn Lusaka-based UPND member Joe Muchindu has challenged the town clerk to produce extent of land sub divided for government offices and compare to Mweetwa’s personal land.
Last week, former Aspiring Choma Central member of parliament Muchindu alleged that his rival Mweetwa grabbed land that was meant for the construction of a modern market and mini hospital.

  1. The young man Muchindu is full of evil in his heart. Such people can kill in order to obtain things by force. Muchindu has built a lot of hatred in his heart against Hon. Mweetwa after his loss for adoption as a candidate for Choma Central Constituency as such, he is fighting tooth and nail to dent the image of the MP so that he gets fired and pave way for him. Such characters are dangerous in society.

  2. – Thanks for picking me for one of the host awards. I love that picture, too, even though the name “Satay Jellyfish” sounds very scary and unappetizing…LOL. But they are real good.
