Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa has been sworn for a second five year term after a disputed August 23 election result rejected by the opposition.

Mnangagwa will begin his term on a shaky legitimacy despite the opposition choosing not to challenge the election result at the constitutional court.

Mnangagwa hardly extended a hand to his closest rival Nelson Chamisa who did not attend the gathering.

Several regional and international leaders attended the ceremony including South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and DRC Felix Tshisekedi.

The widow of the late Robert Mugabe attended the event in a show of thawing relations after the ousting of her husband in a 2017 coup.
