Lusaka man drowns in a swimming pool

A 23-year-old man of Mtendere Township in Lusaka has died after drowning in a swimming pool in Ibex Hill where he went for a braii last evening.

Police Assistant Public Relations Officer, Esther Mwata Katongo, named the deceased as Edward Katete of house number 336/J who she said was discovered by his friends after they realized that he was missing from where the braii was taking place and later found him unconscious in the swimming pool.

Ms Katongo disclosed in a statement made available to ZANIS in Lusaka today that the deceased was rushed to Hill Top Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. The incident happened yesterday around 21:00 hours and the body is lying in the University Teaching Hospital mortuary.

On the Copperbelt, a juvenile, aged 2, died on the spot yesterday after being hit by a Toyota Ipsum motor vehicle registration number ADC 1680 which was being driven by Susan Chileshe, aged 21, of Kitwe’s Chimwemwe Township.

The accident happened along Makasa road opposite Kapemba Basic School in Chimwemwe Township when the driver of the said motor vehicle, who was driving from east to west, went off the road and hit the victim who was off the road.

The driver has since been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and will appear in court soon while the body of the deceased is in Kitwe Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem.
