Lightening kills 5 family members

Five members of the same family have died after being struck by lightning at Siywa village in Namulundu area of Kaoma District in Western Province.

All the family members were seated in a small hut used as a kitchen when the incident happened yesterday on March 3, 2023 around 15:30 hours.

The hut caught fire the after lightening.

Efforts to rescue them by other community members in the village failed.

The deceased were identified as Eliza Namutula aged 52, Mulonda Kashembe aged 29, Namakau Silwendo aged 28, Muyunda Kashembe aged 12 and Borniface Mashewa aged 3.

Police officers visited the scene and have since deposited the bodies of the deceased in Kaoma District Hospital mortuary waiting for postmortem and burial.
