Women in Mealie meal scandal

Police in Mufulira have nabbed three women for smuggling 1,200 bags Of 25 kilogram of Mealie Meal.

The Mealie meal was kept in the garage located at house number 61 Kombe Street.

The consignment was found loaded onto a Fuso fighter truck registration number ALE 2049, which was found parked inside the yard.

Police were in receipt of this report following a tip off from members of the public that unknown number of people had assembled at the said house allegedly to have been in possession of the bags of mealie meal, which was destined to be smuggled into the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The three suspects were identified as Vinet Mulenga, 39 of house number 30 chitimukulu, Hellen Chongo aged 41, and Maureen Miyandwe, 39 of house number 229 both residents of Zambia compound Mokambo.

The suspects have since been apprehended and are in police custody with a docket opened.

Police have already impounded the mealie meal with investigations instituted.
