People’s Alliance for Change (PAC) leader Andyford Banda has made it clear that his presence at ex-UPND Vice President Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba does not mean he has any intention the ruling Patriotic Front (PF).

And Banda has suggested that GBM kept him in the dark about his intention to announce his return to the PF at the press conference when he extended an invitation.

Banda appeared alongside Mwamba, better known as GBM, at a press conference in Lusaka where the latter announced his decision to rejoin the PF.

The PAC leader, who looked uncomfortable as GBM went on a lengthy diatribe against his erstwhile boss Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND leadership, quickly left the venue of the press conference moments after GBM told the gathering that he was returning to the party he left in 2015 together with his supporters.

When approached for an interview by Zambian Eye, Banda said he only attended the press conference to offer support to a friend.

“I have not joined PF. We have nothing to do with PF. Our presence here is out of solidarity with a friend (GBM),” Banda said as he made his way out of the venue of the press conference.

Banda letter circulated a statement to the press where he reveled that the announcement by GBM at the press conference that he was rejoining the PF caught him unaware.

“I Andyford Mayele Banda and the People’s Alliance for Change (PAC) have not joined the PF, we have no plans in the near or distance future to be a PF member. From the alliance days, I have enjoyed a good relationship with Mr. GBM and when he invited me to attend the presser, I had no idea of the contents but went out of respect for my brother,” Banda said.

“In as much as there was a chance that Mr. GBM would join PF, I just went there as a brother and Comrade. I want to assure all the members of PAC that we shall continue to work towards the change we have been preaching about. We also respect our Senior Comdrade GBM’s decision to rejoin PF.”
