East Coast Fever hits Monze district

The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock in Monze District has disclosed that there is an outbreak of East Coast Fever, Heart water and Tuberculosis which has affected farmers across the district.

District Veterinary Officer Dr. Ricky Namakobo says there is a high infection and mortality rate especially for East Coast Fever commonly known as Denkete as one of the farmers West of Monze lost 17 cows last week.

Dr. Namakobo says most of the animals have been affected by the three diseases and there is need for farmers to be vigilant and ensure animals are protected.

He has since advised livestock farmers to dip their animal every 5 days to contain the diseases mainly caused by ticks.

Dr. Namakobo says farmers should also consider using Hitet, Parvexon and Imizole to protect their cattle.
