Concourt sends Lungu’s case for full trial

The Constitutional Court sitting this morning has referred Sixth president Edgar Lungu’s eligibility case for a full trial.

The Court states that their could be fresh arguments in the matter. The matter now be head by a single judge of the Constitutional Court.

Justice Mudford Zachariah Mwandenga read the verdict on the preliminary matter in the petition by a Michelo Chizombe who wants the court to determine if Lungu was eligible to stand as a presidential candidate in the general elections of 2021 or future elections.

Lawyer Makebi Zulu addressing the press after the adjournment said the Judge will advise on the dates.

Lungu and PF senior officials have since moved to the Magistrate Court where his wife Esther Lungu is scheduled to appear.

Meanwhile the State deployed heavy police officers blocking the roads to the court to prevent cadres from assembling at the court grounds.

Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security had warned that they were people planning to cause chaos at the court.
