Charmaine wins K800,000 in damages

The Lusaka High Court has entered a default judgement in the case where Charmaine Musonda had sued the Attorney General for unlawful detention, awarding her K800,000.

Musonda was acquitted of a murder charge in 2017 having spent nearly a year in jail, jointly accused of murdering Namakambwa Kalilakwenda with former Chilanga Member of Parliament Keith Mukata,

Following her acquittal, Musonda sued the state claiming K800,000 damages for false imprisonment, damages for malicious prosecution, general damages, interest on sums payable at the current bank of Zambia lending rate and any other relief the court may deem fit and just.

Charmaine Musonda had sued the Attorney General in terms of the State proceedings Act chapter 71 volume 6 of the laws of Zambia.
