The Barotseland Royal Establishment (BRE) has given the final resolutions at the just ended Privy Council.

Barotse Privy Council was called by the office of the Litunga following President Hakainde Hichilema’s claims that; “There is no country called Barotseland”.

The Barotseland privy council which deliberated for 3 days from 24 to 26th January 2024 solidified their stance based Barotse history and the Barotseland Agreement 1964 which provided for a (nation within a nation) solution as per Barotseland Agreement 1964.

The Privy Council further resolved that; if Zambia unilaterally terminated the Agreement, then it’s time to [sign the disengagement or termination agreement of the BA64].

On 18 January, 2024 while addressing Permanent Secretaries, President Hakainde Hichilema said there is no country called Barotseland.

“You do not have a country called Western Province, Barotseland. We have nothing like that. It is a unitary state. I am serious it is a unitary state. Were you sitting, remind yourselves and the people of Zambia that we are one of Zambia, one nation, one person. We are interdependent,” said President Hichilema.
