The Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has suspended the processing of rebates under the Public Benefit Organization (BPO’s) regulation 88A of the Customs and Excise General Regulations.

This has been done to ensure that there is compliance among the over 350 registered Public Benefit Organizations (BPO’s) who directly benefit from this rebate.

“It is with regret that some of these BPO’s are abusing the facility by importing various goods which are not being used for the intended purpose,” said the authority in a statement.

The Authority will now proceed to do a compliance audit review on all the Public Benefit Organizations and will immediately lift the suspension on all complaint BPO’s.

The Non-compliant Public Benefit organizations will remain suspended till all requirement are fully met.

This review exercise of compliance verification will commence on 21st May, 2020 and will be completed within a period of three months.

“The review is being done to ensure that government revenue is protected and clean up the data base to get assurance that the duty relief claimants are compliant with the requirements of the law,” added the authority.
