President Edgar Lungu says he is a satisfied man in as far as his government’s efforts in ensuring accessibility to health facilities is concerned, adding that in many instances the distance that people have to travel to access health care has reduced.

Lungu says as he reflects on achievements made in the health sector, he prides himself that his administration delivered on its promises, thus taking health care as close to the people as possible.

He writes:

My fellow citizens,

Today I reflect on our many achievements in the health sector. We promised to take health care as close to the people as possible, and I’m happy that in many instances we have reduced the distance that our people have to travel to access health care.

I know that today, an expectant mother in Ngoma, Kasempa, North-Western Province, will not travel 12km on a bicycle to give birth, because my Government has built a health post within her community.

These deliberate interventions have contributed greatly to the reduction in the maternal mortality rate.

We do not promise anything we cannot deliver; we deliver what we promise.
