The Minister of Health Chitalu Chilufya has urged Zambians to continue adhering to the safety and health standards, as two coronavirus patients are released from hospital after recovering from the disease.

The Minister said this today while giving an update to the nation regarding the pandemic.

Chilufya said it is important to stop importing coronavirus into the country, and added that the presidential directive to quarantine people coming into the country for 14 days remains mandatory.

He said adequate hand washing facilities have been set up at all ports of entry, adding that along the way stops are going to be effected so that people are sanitised on their way to their destinations.

In line with the recruitment of health personel as ordered by President Lungu, Chilufya urged applicants not to crowd at the ministry offices, but to just drop their CV, as well as to apply using electronic systems via emails.

He also spoke of the need to keep Zambia clean, pointing out that his ministry in collaborationg with the ministry of Local Government today engaged in a clean up campaign, in which they cleaned areas in the city.

He said today’s clean up was in line with the Clean Zambia campaign which was launched by President Edgar Lungu. Chilufya thanked the Indian Community in Zambia for heeding the call and for providing materials and disinfectants worth K500 000 that was used today during the clean up.

“We are restricting movements, avoid non essential travels both within and outside the country,” said Chilufya adding that all the other measures such as maintaining social distance, washing hands regularly should be observed by all at all times.

There was no new case reported today, and the minister also called on other ministries including the Ministry of Home Affairs to work hand in hand with his ministry so that the pandemic is stopped from spreading.

  1. Ba Chiluya niuzenikoni. Since we dont have a cure for the disease how does the body fight of corona infection? Does the antibodies kill it or do they just keep it in check? If so can someone be said to be corona virus free? Hasnt the patient just developed immunity?
