Stop arresting opposition members, Msoni cautions govt

All People’s Congress (APC) Party President Nason Msoni has cautioned government against the alleged sustained culture of arresting opposition political party members.

In a Facebook post seen by Zambian Eye, Msoni said it is a troubling development to have nearly the entire opposition party members formally charged for various offenses.

He said tolerance and exercising of maximum restraint are key features of any functional democracy.

However, Msoni said that the current path Zambia is on shows that there is an obvious danger that the country is losing democratic credentials.

He said it is important that the opposition in a democracy offer credible checks and balances without the fear of being arrested.

“It is prudent for all Zambians to maintain sobriety and cool-heads in promoting national unity and reconciliation,” Msoni said.
