JOHANNESBURG – Bafana Bafana legend Phil Masinga has died.

Masinga died at 49, after a short illness.

He is remembered for scoring the goal that helped Bafana qualify for their first World Cup.

Masinga played in the English Premier League with Leeds United, alongside fellow Bafana legend Lucas Radebe and also had spells in the Italian Serie A for Salernitana and Bari.

He started his professional career with Jomo Cosmos before moving on to Mamelodi Sundowns.
