Shonga confident of CHAN qualification

In-form Chipolopolo striker Justin Shonga says fans should expect a good game in Saturday’s African Nations Championship (CHAN) match against South Africa.

Shonga who netted a last minute equalizer in the first leg encounter in South Africa to earn Zambia a 2-all away draw in East London told that the team was focussed on winning the match before their home crowd.

“We are ready for the game and are aiming to win. The fans should expect a good game,” said the Nkwazi Football Club striker.

“My job is to score so definitely I will be working to score and help the team qualify to the CHAN.”

The Chipolopolo boys went through the paces on Thursday afternoon with Power Dynamos striker Alex Ng’onga teaming up with his colleagues after missing out on the first leg.

N’gonga trained with the team with his presence looking to boost the Zambian attack.

Zambia needs to avoid defeat or a high scoring draw to earn qualification to the Kenya 2018 championship.

Meanwhile, South Africa’s interim caretaker coach Thabo Senong says Zambia will not have an easy match when the two countries clash in the Total Kenya 2018 CHAN second leg qualifier match at Levy Mwanawasa stadium today.

Speaking on arrival at Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe International Airport yesterday, Senong, who is standing in for head coach Stewart Baxter who has remained behind to concentrate on next month’s World Cup qualifiers, said the match will be an interesting affair.

“We are fully aware that it won’t be easy for us and it won’t be easy for Zambia. So we are looking forward to the encounter on Saturday. We have brought some quality talented young boys that have gelled really quickly in time to make sure that we can build a strong 11 men squad just to make sure we can compete on Saturday,” said Senong.

“Obviously Zambia has done well to score two away goals, that was obviously a little bit disturbance for us but Zambia will probably be playing defensively. Or they will say ok, we are playing at home, let’s take on the South Africans. If they attack, I think it will open for us but I still think that it will be a nice encounter. We have not given up we just need to work on something like set play and I how to cope with Zambia’s quick attackers.”
