Paramount Chief Mpezeni of Ngoni people in Eastern has clarified that his support for Republican President and Patriotic Front Presidential Candidate in the forth coming elections is not based on tribe but the belief that he Head of State should be give a fresh mandate to complete the development agenda under PF

“MY support for President Edgar Lungu should not be misconstrued as tribal because his endorsement is based the belief that the Head of State should be given his own mandate to complete his developmental agenda” Mpezeni said

Paramount Chief Mpezeni and Chief Chanje of the Chewa-speaking people in Chipata have clarified that the endorsement of President Lungu and the Patriotic Front (PF) should not be mistaken to be tribal.

The two traditional leaders said the endorsing of President Lungu was purely based on their strong belief that the ruling party should be given another mandate to continue its developmental agenda.

Speaking when Eastern Province PF campaign committee member, Mr Lameck Mangani paid a courtesy call on him at his palace, Chief Mpezeni said that President Lungu was like a new vehicle which does not require servicing a few days after it is bought.

Paramount Chief Mpezeni said President Lungu needed to be given more time to continue

with his developmental programmes he had embarked on and warned that a change of the country’s leadership would see some of the developmental projects abandoned.

The Paramount Chief Mpezeni said he was able to see developmental activities across his chiefdom and other parts of the country and that there was no need to start changing government leadership just for the sake of it.

The traditional leader said there was need for Zambians to give the PF and President Lungu more time to develop this country because the Head of State had demonstrated a true desire and dedication to improve the lives of citizens.

“President Lungu is like a brand new motor vehicle and no one buys a new car and immediately begins servicing it. Our endorsing of President Lungu is not based on the miscued notion of tribe but purely on the basis that there is need for continuity. We cannot be changing the country’s leadership for the sake of it.

We have developmental program that are being implemented and if there was change of leadership, there is a danger that some projects could be abandoned,” Paramount Chief Mpezeni said.

He said everybody should rally behind the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) and President Edgar Lungu because of the massive development that had been undertaken in the last five year.

And Chief Chanje assured Mr. Mangani of President Lungu’s victory and urged the ruling party not to get worried because people in Chipangali constituency were behind the ruling party.

Chief Chanje also told Mr. Mangani during a courtesy call paid on him that the message on the referendum was well received and people were ready to vote ‘YES’.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mangani appealed to the two traditional leaders to help disseminate information to their subjects about the importance of voting in an election.

    • Mpezeni supported sata when RB was there. when PF will fail they be no tribe let’s allow them to finish their second term though it won’t be easy because of kambwili who seem more promising than the current political contenders

  4. Let those who have ears hear. Voting for PF will be suicidal. Since us Zambians have never seen the worst suffering in our lives let make a mistake & vote for Edgar we shall regret but it will be too late. God has given us an opportunity to do away with criminals should we make a mistake we shall live to regret. Timely warning. Ukwali insoke takwafwile bangu. We shall see what we have never seen after independence mark my words

  7. The reason why Mpezeni supported Late Sata and not RB is simple. He did not like RB because RB preferred to send his Vice President Late Kunda to South Africa for treatment and told the so called Nkosi ya ma Nkosi. to wait.Unfortunately for RB this position was not well taken by the Nkosi ya ma Nkosi. But if you can also remember the same Nkosi in 2008 told us to vote for the one with a large nose. What I would like however to point out is Zambia is a Republic and therefore nobody should benefit from public funds based on inheritance. The clever Tanzanians did away with their chiefs.

  9. Zambian chiefs have no principles. Wasn’t this the same paramount Chief who last month was seen with other Chewa and Ngoni Chiefs busy and openly campaigning against the govt in Kasenengwa area? What devpt has taken place in less than a month from the time these chiefs were castigating govt for lack of devpt? Awe kwena mwacilamo!

It’s time to do away with this system of Chiefs. They mislead their subjects just bkos they want to “chew”. Shame!

  11. Zambia would not have been in a state it is today if the church and our traditional chiefs, took advantage of the highly charged political environment to play a unifying role and work with all politicians regardless of political affiliation.

Zambia would not have been in a state it is today if traditional chiefs rejected dollars and gifts from politicians during campaigns?

Zambia would not have been in a state it is today if the Ministry of Chiefs and Traditional Affairs had done something to educate traditional chiefs about their role boundaries.

Zambia would not have been in a state it is today if some traditional chiefs did not openly ask the audience to support certain political candidate which is an abrogation of Section 129 of the Republican Constitution. Don’t some of our traditional chiefs know that by telling us about their preferences for particular candidates they risk ridicule and shame when their subjects defy them. I thought traditional chiefs are not supposed to interfere with citizens’ enjoyment of their political rights.

  12. Kumawa people, please, please, don’t be left behind. PF have destroyed your way of life – agriculture, and some corrupt chiefs wake up and urge you to vote for pf simply because they received money for themselves while your bellies are empty….. eish!! PF and Lungu will never develop your agriculture, Mpezeni is foolish minded, don’t heed to his divisive thinking. For five years now Eastern has been reduced to peasant farming, no massive peanut, cotton, tobacco, etc, productions as used to be, pf and lungu have no concern for all that. Leave Mpezeni alone, vote for your developmental ambitions, not for proven failure of pf.
VOTE FOR CHANGE – VOTE HH, TEAM UPND.

  18. Traditional leaders are not supposed to openly support any political leaders. What will happen when Lungu loses which is evident that he is definitely losing this election. What will become of the paramount chief? There’s need for our traditional rulers to refrain from being cadres mane.
