Music kills Teacher

A Teacher has been killed by a train while walking on the rail line and listening to music through the headsets.

A 35-year-old Community School Teacher was fatally struck by a goods train in Lusaka on Tuesday morning.

The victim, identified as Gilbert Kapenda, was walking along the railway line with headsets in his ears and could not hear the train honking.

The incident occurred around 11:00 hours in Kabanana compound, where Kapenda taught at Chimwansa Community School.

He sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH).

Officers from Zambia Police and Zambia Railways Police rushed to the scene and confirmed the incident.

They found headsets and a cellphone at the scene of the accident.

Police investigations revealed that Kapenda was listening to music from his cellphone and was unaware of the approaching train.

He was hit from behind and thrown off the tracks.

The body is in UTH mortuary awaiting postmortem.

Police Deputy Spokesperson Danny Mwale says an inquiry file and appealed to the public to be cautious when walking near railway lines.
