Malawian President Lazarus Chakwera is in the country on official visit, to hold bilateral talks with his counterpart President Edgar Lungu.

A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Malawi stated that President Chakwera departed Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe at 8am this morning and is expected to return back home at 4pm.

President Lungu has announced Chakwera’s arrival saying that he has just hosted his counterpart at his official residence.

“I have the pleasure of hosting my counterpart, the President of the Republic of Malawi, His Excellency Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera on his official working visit to Zambia,” said Lungu.

According to the Malawian Foreign Affairs Minister Eisenhower Mkaka the two leaders will discuss among others issues on trade and the economy.

Full details of the outcome of the state visit to Zambia will be announced later.

Meanwhile, First Lady Esther Lungu has pledged to continue collaborating with many stakeholders to ensure the lives of the vulnerable are uplifted.

The First lady says the formation of the Esther Lungu Foundation Trust is meant to complement government efforts in improving the lives of vulnerable people in rural areas.

She was speaking when she hosted the First Lady of Malawi Monica Chakwera at the Esther Lungu Foundation Trust secretariat in Chongwe.

She added that her foundation will continue to expand in various areas of human endeavors with the focus to reduce vulnerability among rural women and girls who are the most disadvantaged in society.
