Lungu’s burial finally set

….State And Family Resolve Outstanding Issues
After along battle between the Zambian Government and the family to the late former President President Edgar Lungu, the burial date has finally been set.
Lungu who died on 5th June 2025 in South African will be repatriated to Zambia next week on Wednesday 18th June, 2025.
The burial will take place on Monday 23rd June 2025.
Lungu’s Party, the Patriotic Front (PF) has announced without giving details saying the parties have agreed on Outstanding issues.
“State and Family agree on outstanding issues. Body arrives Wednesday 18th June 2025 and burial is Monday 23rd June”
The government earlier announced the talks had reached advanced stage.
The Ministry of Information says there will be a joint press briefing tomorrow at 10:00 hrs.
The National mourning declared by Government lapsed today.
Local media in Zimbabwe today reported that using quiet diplomacy President Emmerson Mnangagwa had helped to resolve the impasse in Zambia.
President Mnangagwa on Friday sent his Special Envoy to deliver a message to President Hakainde Hichilema.
Another Government Delegation led by Foreign Affairs Ministry Mulambo Haimbe flew to South Africa to join the other government Delegation led by former Vice president.
Lungu served as Zambia’s Sixth Republican President from 26th January 2015 to 24th August 2021.
