Lungu apologises for embarrassing the nation

President Edgar Lungu has apologized to the nation for a misleading statement and pictures over the construction of the Kafue/ Mazabuka road.

President Lungu says the pictures which were used to show the works on the Mazabuka/Kafue road do not represent the actual works as they were taken in another country.

The pictures have attracted serious public outcry, with some Nigerians claiming the pictures too.

Late yesterday, President Lungu removed the said pictures with an apology.

Meanwhile former Presidential Aide Dickson Jere has expressed concern over the misinformation from the office of the President.

Jere says heads must roll for embarrassing the Head of State.

Heads Must Roll, writes, Jere

“I rarely comment on the work of State House – media team – because I once served in that role and I understand the pressure and difficulties that come with those jobs.

“However, certain mistakes can never be forgiven. One such is this one where the Presidential handlers used picture of road construction from another country saying it was in Zambia!
Just how?

“State House has two full-time photographers backed by ZANIS team. How can one embarrass the Head of State in this manner and still keep the job?

“My brother Isaac Chipampe ought to be firm and make sure those running the Facebook page of the President are read a riot act,” he says.

He adds that his comment is actually triggered by the fact that he is a practicing Intellectual Property (IP) lawyer and that one of the things lawyers frown upon badly is plagiarism!

“You cannot use someone work (picture in this case) without attributing it to the author. What if Zambia is sued???? This is embarrassing to say the least and will soon go viral on international press.

“You need to respect the office of the President and maintain the required decorum. Using someone picture from another country is simply unforgivable!” He adds.

  1. Thank you Your Excellency for apologising on behalf of your media team. It happens because there are so many photos handled at State House.

  2. There is just no excuse for this. I bet the system was very aware of this. Honestly, the much celebrated Chinese cannot build roads that Julius Berger have been building in Nigeria for example. How many lies have Zambians been exposed to by this government?

  3. This is terrible. These are the results you get when you rely and employ carders. Very embarrassing. Who did you want to impress?

  4. Who to apologise? Is this the worst blunder to come out of this State House? There are more serious ones which he hasn’t apologized for.
