Hippo hits dugout canoe,leaves one feared dead

Hippo on the Kafue River has hit a dugout canoe leaving one person feared dead and the other surviving with injuries.

Police investigations indicate that the victims were attacked as they were crossing the Kafue river on May 4, 2024 around 05:30 hours in Chiawa District.

The two survived the incident but Mugali Zezai, 24, is believed to have been caught by a crocodile as they were swimming to safety while Geoffrey Chindalo, aged 54, managed to reach the shore with injuries he sustained from the Hippo attack.

He was rushed to Kambale Clinic where he was attended to and later discharged. His condition is said to be stable.

The search for the missing victim is ongoing.
