Mulberries, fruits known as ‘marubeni’ in Zambia, have nutrients that promote good health and create a perfect antidote for numerous diseases.

Mulberries are endowed with lots of iron, essential for avoiding and treating anemia or low blood count. Iron also boosts the oxygen carrying capacity of blood thereby improving oxygen distribution to various body parts. Sufficient blood oxygen is particularly beneficial for diabetics who suffer inadequate oxygen distribution caused by poor blood circulation and resulting in complications including stroke, blindness, amputation, and erectile dysfunction.

Vitamin C, also abundant in mulberries, enables the proper absorption of iron, allowing iron to carry out various essential tasks; without vitamin C, absorption and function of iron is poor. In addition, vitamin C reduces the chance of dying from any disease and it possesses powerful anti aging properties that keep skin moist and free of wrinkles.

Mulberries happen to be great sources of vitamin K as well, a nutrient that promotes heart health by removing plaque buildup in blood vessels. Furthermore, reliable scientific data points to vitamin K boosting brain function, particularly improving memory and enhancing cognitive ability.

That is not all, mulberries provide impressive amounts of resveratrol, a powerful anti oxidant that slows down aging and fights wrinkles, keeping you looking younger for longer. Resveratrol also protects against stroke by maintaining wide blood vessels, allowing ample blood flow to the brain.

Adding to the richness of mulberries, vitamins B6, B3, B2, and B9, are present and together they facilitate the metabolism of carbohydrates, fat, and protein. Vitamin B9, also known as folate, prevents birth defects and fights heart disease.

Several studies also indicate that mulberry compounds known as alkaloids greatly boost the immune system while various nutrients in this wonder fruit have powerful anti cancer activities that not only prevent cancer but also kill existing cancer cells. Like other unprocessed plant foods, mulberries have plenty of fiber, a nutrient with infinite health promoting effects.
