After serving for several months as Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) interim leader, Felix Mutati has finally landed the position of party president.

This is after his only contender Elias Phiri developed cold feet and withdrew from the race at the last minute in an elective national people’s assembly.

Announcing the results, returning officer MacDonald Chipenzi declared Mutati as duly elected MDC President.

Chipenzi who is also GEARS executive director has called on other political parties to emulate MDC through the holding of peaceful elective meetings.

And in his acceptance speech, Mutati says the peaceful manner in which the assembly has been held demonstrates the maturity the party brings to the political scene.

He adds that citizens of Zambia should not permit political violence and disturbances that will attract tribal disruptions.

Mutati says it is time to repair the economy of the nation and allow every Zambian a decent meal amidst the high cost of living.

He has since appealed to President Edgar Lungu to ensure that there is no selective enforcement of the health guidelines associated with Covid 19, as there is no substitute to lives being lost.

Mutati has since committed to hard work and he is hopeful that once in government, a competent civil servant will be key to delivering a quality service. -News On The Go
