Fake Soldier nabbed

A fake Soldier, Clement Kanyembo has been arrested for the offence of Personating Public Officer.

Kanyembo 49, presented himself as a soldier by producing a Zambia Army identity card and solicitated for money amounting to K15,000 from Agness Phiri aged 25 of Kalingalinga Compound under the pretext that he will get her a job in the Zambia Army.

As if that was not enough, Kanyembo is also alleged to have introduced himself as a security officer under the United Party for National Development (UPND).

Police investigations revealed that the suspect was dismissed from Zambia Army in 2015 and that he is not a security officer under the UPND.

Police Deputy Spokesperson Danny Mwale says brief facts are that on August 20, 2023 around 10:00 hours at Society House along Cairo road, the victim’s mobile phone was used by her friend to call Kanyembo and she overhead them discussing recruitment issues in the Zambia Army , Phiri got interested and decided to meet him.

Mwale says it was then that Kanyembo introduced himself as a Soldier and presented a Zambia Army identity card to her.

On September 13, 2023, Phiri reported the matter to Police after Kanyembo called her requesting for money.

They arranged to meet at East Park Mall in Lusaka where the suspect was apprehended from by Police officers around 14:00 hours, Mwale said.

A Zambia Army identity card was recovered from him.

The suspect is in custody waiting to be formally charged.
