Founder President of the Democratic Party, Gift Kalumba has led members of the central committee and other leaders of the Democratic Party to ditch Harry Kalaba’s party.

In his address to the media at the ruling Patriotic Front Secretariat in Lusaka, Gift Kalumba stated that the purpose and reasons they formed the party was to help deliver development and alleviate poverty in Zambia.

But he said they had come to the realization that the Patriotic Front was delivering on the development  issues they were pursuing.

And Kalumba urged other members to rejoin the ruling party as the leadership of President Edgar Lungu was inspiring.

“No political party in the history of our country has delivered on development in the manner the PF has done”.

He said many members of the the DP were originally from PF and with the promotion of healing and national development driven by President Edgar Lungu, they have been persuaded to rejoin the party.

“We have done this on our own without any cohesion. We have decided to come back home as Zambia is bigger than all of us.” Kalumba said.

And DP member of the central committee, Apsotle Patrick Chibeshi said as members of the leadership of the party, they had resolved to rejoin the PF to help contribute to the development of the country.

Former Foreign Affairs Minister and PF Member of Parliament for Bahati Harry Kalaba has appointed himself as a presidential candidate of the Democratic Party.

And PF Secretary General Davies Mwila said he was excited to receive the DP officials to the party.

“We are happy to receive you today. You will enjoy equal rights as old members do. Politics is about people and if you don’t have the people you cannot govern”. Said Mr. Mwila

Mr. Mwila said President Lungu had mandated him to grow the party and recruit as many new members as possible.

He also said the winning of the Mangango seat in Western Province showed that the PF was not driven by tribalism.

He said the PF always put Zambians first and was keen to  deliver human and infrastructure development.

“As we are speaking we have delivered seeds and fertilizer across the country”. Mwila said.

He also said the party welcomed the meeting between President Lungu and Opposition leader, Hakainde Hichilema.

He said the two met to discuss issues affecting the people of Zambia.

He said the PF was ready to discuss with other political parties on matters related to national development and progress.

“We stand for dialogue. We have even agreed on the issues through the ZCID. This include the proposals to amend the Public Order Act, Electoral Reforms and amendments to the Republican Constitution” said Mr. Mwila.
